44. Impressive New Kitchen Gadgets

By: m01229

Everyone welcomes how advanced technology has improved our lives, particularly in the kitchen. Just take a look at all of the “smart” appliances that have populated the market. These can even “talk” to each other through a mobile phone.

At Planen, we want to concentrate on basic IT advances that are benefiting the lives of the chef and amateur cook. These innovations allow them to prepare meals more efficiently, suitable for the fast-pace in today’s society.

So, let’s go over what kinds of popular hi-tech kitchen gadgets are out on the market right now that we think will go mainstream in 2014. And if they do not catch on, that is fine too, although we think that would be a missed opportunity. You may already have a few of these gadgets in your kitchen.

The touch screen oven from Gorenje is very impressive. Not only does it tell you when to add in an ingredient, but it can figure out what you are preparing so you really cannot make a mistake. You get a selection of 65 pre-programmed meals, with the ability to programme an addtional 150 meals of your choosing. This is like a fool-proof cooker with a great memory. That is truly progress. The silver and black design also looks very chic in the kitchen. That should be mentioned, too.

This silver-tone, square piece of kitchen equipment is a water oven. This claims to cook whatever meat you put in perfectly. The meat is put in a bag, then into the oven. It is supposed to make the most tender meat that you have ever eaten. “One thing for sure – it is a really easy way to cook,” say Julian from Planen kitchen designers in Surrey.

This IT scale will take the work out of measuring for your cake mix. It can measure almost anything and will tell you in a instant how much you have. You get measurements in cups, tablespoons, millilters – all at once.

This nice-looking porcelain mug is not really a high-tech gadget, but we wanted to include it here because we really like it. This mug has a little corner that makes it easy to pour, and which serves as a perfect spot for a spoon. The shape also makes it easier to hold because you don’t really need a handle now. They can be neatly stacked up on top of each other, so you will not have to worry about space if you own a few mugs like this. You can even leave the spoon in!

This hot sandwich maker will let you condense three steps into one. It will toast the muffin, cook the egg and melt the cheese so that after you take a few minutes to read the paper, you will have the whole sandwich ready for you. This device cooks the sandwich and puts it together for you. If you want to save time, this is the gadget for you.

We wrote about the HAPIFork last year, so it is not really new. It is activated by the Smartphone. We were so impressed by it that we thought it would be worthwhile to mention it here again. This gadget is great for people who are trying to lose weight because it keeps track of how much food is eaten, and the frequency between each bite taken. The purpose of this device is to help the individual slow down his pace of eating so he thinks about each bite that he is taking. When a person slows down his eating and takes each bite more mindfully, he will end up losing weight. This makes a lot of sense to us.

43. Social Media is a Blessing for Small Businesses

By: mkhmarketing

One of the most important aspects of running a profitable business is understanding how to market the products or services being offered. Because the amount of cash brought in by small businesses, especially during the beginning, there is usually very little available for expensive advertising. Fortunately, there are some great alternatives available at no cost that small business owners can use to reach a wide variety of customers. Social media has absolutely changed the way marketing works, allowing companies great exposure that learn how to utilize it.

There are many different strategies that can be effective in reaching customers through social media. For example, some businesses have found that running contests and competitions is a fabulous way to get customers involved. Others have found that stimulating conversations about topics related to the business really get them interested. Which sites and methods will work best depend upon several factors and may take some trial and error to figure out.

Network Selections

Hundreds of social media sites exist on the Internet, though most people generally just think of Twitter or Facebook when social media is mentioned. There are sites that focus in more clearly on particular interests and others that simply work better with some businesses than others. Another concern when using social media is to strike a balance in the number of sites being used. If a business owner tries to post on too many, it may become time consuming and potential customers may be turned off by repetitive information. Too few, and the maximum potential customers will not be reached.

Beware of Spam

Nobody appreciates receiving spam. This is something that clogs up email boxes, blog posts, and social media sites. “Before a business posts on a social media site, they need to be certain the content is relevant. Consumers do not simply want to see repeated advertisements.” explains Christine Joyce, a marketing expert based in Essex.

Give them content of interest and they are more likely to retain interest in your business. Pay attention to what types of postings are most effective in reaching your customers. Most social media sites have tools to help you with this.

Figure Out Your Target Customer Base

When you are determining which social media sites to use, you need to contemplate the customers you wish to reach and the types of sites you should use to connect with them. For example, LinkedIn is a very popular business site but, you would not want to use it for some other things. Many businesses use Facebook and Twitter to some extent because of the large number of people that use them. You will also need to think about your product or services. If it is something very visual, you may want to get involved with Pinterest. This social media site allows people to scroll and share images very quickly. If a person likes your art, they can click the link you have attached to the picture.

If you are uncertain about which sites to use, take some time to learn about the most popular ones and search for those who have had success with lesser known ones in a related niche. The more focused your choices can be, the more likely you are to be successful with it.

The most important thing for a business owner to keep in mind is that social media is just that, social. It will require regular work and interaction with the public in order to be successful. However, it is a far more affordable advertising strategy than using the local paper and radio.

42. Essential Tips for Creating Marketing Buzz

By: U.S. Army

Producing marketing buzz around a new service or product without the need to break the marketing budget is an ideal way to promote products during tight economic times. In fact, creating buzz is an easy solution for marketing the business, enhancing company brand, and increasing sales and profits. However, every business is unique, and requires unique marketing strategies that are ideally suited for the company. The tips listed below can help any company develop an ideal strategy to produce optimal results.

Finding a Targeted Audience

Like mentioned in our previous blog post, successful marketing requires focusing on a specific targeted audience. Determining who wants the products or services your company is selling will help improve your bottom line. To determine a targeted audience, you will need to learn everything about them that is available online. This often requires market research, and a bit of imagination. Look for the group of individuals interested in a specific niche market that would like to purchase your product or services, and find out exactly how and what they buy.

“When” Is As Important As “What”

Christine from CJAM, a marketing agency in Essex, is passionate about the whens and whats of marketing: “When your targeted audience wants to purchase your products, is just as important as what they want to purchase. Creating a successful marketing buzz is dependent on timing the market place, and knowing when your targeted audience will be interested in making a purchase from you and/or your competitors.”

It is important to note that seasonal changes are not the only factor that determines when the customer purchases products, but also the time of the day along with any other changing need happening with the consumer. As an example, most individuals do not eat when they are not hungry or replace automobile parts, when the vehicle is running smoothly. You will need to reach your consumer base at the exact moment they need to purchase your product, which might not often be anytime they are sitting behind a keyboard using a search engine to look for information.

Know the Right Time and Right Place

Now that your company has a comprehensive understanding of what the targeted audience purchases, you need to understand the right time and right place when the customer will buy. Understanding the right place and the right time are two of the crucial factors of marketing. Your success will rely on your creativity, and thinking outside the common marketing box. Avoid run-of-the-mill, worn-out tactics. When you understand what you are selling, think of all the places you can market. Consider entering into the right partnerships, placing adverts in the right locations, and maximizing your advertising dollars to ensure that your company and the brand are in front of the consumer at the moment their wanting to purchase your product.

Expand

Like all business owners, you will need to always remain incredibly excited about the marketing ideas you choose. Remaining positive and excited about your marketing approach, and happy in your decision in how you are going to gain access to your customers are crucial to your success. If you are not excited, it is important to step back in the development process, or even possibly begin all over again. Once you feel completely satisfied with your marketing ideas, you will need to begin taking the steps to capture a small bit of your targeted audience. Your efforts of placing the desired information in front of the consumer at the right time will ensure that your marketing efforts are successful.

The process of finding the audience, understanding what they want to buy, and when they want to buy it will help you see every single element of your marketing strategy. Remaining excited about placing the product or service you provide in front of the right targeted audience at the correct time is a powerful marketing tool will create marketing buzz and increase your success, sales and profits.

41. Creating A Home That Works For Children And Adults Alike

By: Soctech

Do you have children? If so, you probably understand the importance of creating a space within your home for your little ones. If not, you may not realize that it is still important to make your home as child-friendly as possible. After all, at some point, friends or family members will likely bring their little ones over for dinner or a party. John Thompson from Your Next Mortgage chimes in with some more advice: “When it is time to resell your property, a home designed with children in mind will appeal to all types of buyers.”

Regardless of why you decide to set up a space in your home for children, it is important not to lose sight of your own needs in the process.  Obviously, there should be an area where children can play and relax. But, you still need a few areas of the home that aren’t cluttered with toys or mess.

How, then, can you make this happen?

Avoid Permanent Decorations

Children go through a number of different stages. What they like and what appeals to them as toddlers probably won’t be the same things that appeal to them when they enter school. Therefore, stay away from any type of permanent decoration. Instead, pick colorful, child-friendly decorations that are temporary and can be removed from the space.

Anything that has to stay in the room for a long time, like the furniture, should be plain and suitable for people of all ages. Add in those temporary decorations to reflect the ages of the children that will be frequenting the space. For example, you could pick out posters or themed pillowcases. These are both relatively inexpensive items that will add a lot to the room you are decorating.

Use Chalkboard Paint

Chalkboard paint is available in many different colors and options. Choose one wall of the room and paint it with this product. Store a few pieces of chalk nearby, and allow children to express themselves through their artwork whenever they would like. The chalk drawings are easy to clean up. As a bonus, you don’t have to worry about paper and crayons getting scattered throughout the house because the art is contained to just that one area.

Chalkboard walls are a lot of fun for kids of all ages. Even the very youngest like to “create” with scribbles. Therefore, you really can’t go wrong creating this type of space in your home. And, if you are worried that the children will be upset when it is time to clean up, simply store a camera nearby (but out of reach). Snap a picture of their masterpieces before cleaning up so that the artwork is saved forever.

Get Creative with Storage

It is easy to become overwhelmed with clutter, particularly when it involves children’s toys. Certainly, you can build bookshelves to hold certain items, but then those things are visible to all who enter the space. That probably isn’t what you want. Instead, get creative with your storage options so that you can hide some of the clutter while still allowing the little ones to have access to the toys.

There are attractive ottomans that also double as toy boxes. They can be used as a seat and they have space inside where you can put toys or other items. Of course, the piece also functions as a traditional ottoman as well, giving it a number of different uses around the house.

If you feel that a shelf is your best bet, looking into getting something to cover it. For example, an inexpensive curtain is an attractive decoration that will hide all the clutter on the shelves. Kids can easily get to the toys, because all they have to do is push back the curtain.

Having a child-friendly space in your home doesn’t mean that you have to be overwhelmed with toys and juvenile decorations. There is a way to make things work while still being respectful of your own needs.

47. Moving Across the Country with Freight Forwarders

keep calm you're moving house
keep calm you’re moving house

Moving is difficult, even if you are just relocating across town. However, when you are headed to another country, moving takes on a whole new meaning. Still, you do not need to be discouraged. There are a lot of people and families moving to other countries for a variety of reasons. As a result, there are resources out there that can help you.

The Internet is a great tool during the moving process. Start by searching for UK freight forwarders. There are a lot of companies that can assist you with your needs. This includes getting your home packed up and overseeing the shipment of your items. Remember, this process does not need to be difficult or expensive. Talk to the freight forwarders and explain what you want from them. Let them handle the rest, which may include customs paperwork and import/export procedures.

Shipping Singular Pieces

For a variety of reasons, you may not be able to ship all your possessions together. In those instances, some singular pieces may need to go out. Weigh the item and then get a quote for how much it will cost to ship. In addition to the weight, you will need postal codes for both the shipment location and the destination. Once you have that information, it is simple to get an accurate quote.

In most cases, you want to just pay for the space you take up on the shipping vessel. Therefore, look for the terms “LCL” (less than a container load) and “LTL” (less than a truck load). When speaking with the freight forwarders, make sure they understand what you are interested in. There are a lot of options, and these companies have the resources to get you a fair price.

Using One Company

Because your possessions are traveling overseas, you may believe that you will have to work with a number of different companies to get the job done. That is not necessarily the case. You can find one freight forwarder in the UK to handle your needs from beginning to end – Zambezi Freight is one such example of a freight forwarder who can handle it all. Simply communicate well with the company that you choose, get a quote and ask about any special services they offer so you know what to expect.

If you live in a challenging area, there is no need to fret. While it is true that very large vehicles cannot get down a small road or have the space to park on a cul-de-sac, there are other options. The company you work with often has vans that can be dispatched to the location. These vans can pick up your boxes and transport them to the right place. Once they get to a certain location, the items will be transferred onto a bigger truck. These services are also available at your new home as well. Therefore, just ask to see what is available if you are concerned.

The Packing Process

Packing is often overwhelming. Talk to your freight forwarders and get their advice on the best way to secure your items. Obviously, you do not want anything to break while in transit. If you need boxes and other materials, you can also purchase those from the freight forwarders. For instance, perhaps you do not have bubble wrap or you are looking for bespoke wooden cases. These items are all available to help make packing easier.

Remember, different items in your home will require different types of packing materials. Your dishes, for example, are much more fragile than your kitchen table. The freight forwarders you use are an invaluable resource when it comes to getting your possessions quickly and safely packed up.

If you have unique packing needs, it may be worth it to inquire about custom-made wooden cases. They can be created to help house several special items that you are concerned about. This is a great option for your particularly fragile possessions.

The thought of moving across the country may make your anxieties flare up. However, there is support to get you through this challenging time. Before you know it, you will be in your new home!

Ensure that all your child’s friends participate and are enjoying the party.

39. Why Are Open Kitchens So Popular?

Going to a restaurant with an open kitchen is a unique experience. An open kitchen gives patrons something interesting to look at instead of spending their evening engrossed in their cell phone. Besides, open kitchens help create a climate of transparency and give patrons a better idea of what goes on in the restaurant.

It seems that that Open Kitchens became very popular a couple of years ago but the trend is still here,” says Tom Watson from Commercial Kitchens Design. “Patrons enjoy watching the staff prepare food and keeping an eye on the many activities of the staff throughout the evening.”

The experience can almost be compared to a good amateur theatre show. The chefs and the rest of the staff know the patrons are watching and enjoy putting on a show, for instance by using feet high flames, creating some steam or clattering the pots. The patrons just can’t keep themselves from looking at what is going on in the kitchen as they enjoy their food.

One of the best open kitchen experience can be found in Japan, where restaurants are equipped with a conveyor belt and the chefs prepare sushi a few feet away from the belt and the patrons.

In the U.S., some patrons call themselves ‘superdiners’ and consider themselves as ‘food voyeurs’. These patrons highly enjoy open kitchens and will rate and recommend restaurants based on their experience with the open kitchen. The restaurants with the most interesting kitchen drama get the highest ratings. What goes on in the kitchen is considered as even more important than the presentation or the quality of the menu items.

Why has the Open Kitchen concept become so popular?

It is obvious that celebrity chefs have had a lot to do with popularizing this trend. People like Gordon Ramsay, Heston Blumenthal, Michel Roux or Jamie Oliver are fascinating with their skills and creativity. With a chef like Blumenthal, cooking looks more like a science lesson than anything else. There are also shows that have helped make the trend more popular, such as Masterchef in the U.K. The popularity of celebrity chefs or TV shows is actually leading us to believe that anyone can become a chef and has made cooking a more popular hobby and a more common way of impressive the other half.

We have become accustomed to seeing food preparation in reality TV shows and we naturally expect the same experience from our favourite restaurants.

What is the advantage of an Open Kitchen for the restaurant?

As stated above, an Open Kitchen helps make things more transparent for patrons A restaurant that has nothing to hide and gladly puts the staff at work on display inspires confidence. Patrons feel that a restaurant with an Open Kitchen is not likely to receive a visit from the health inspector or to use dodgy practices when it comes to preparing food. Patrons know how their Cullen Skink has been prepared and have watched the chef handle and cook the steak they ordered.

Some critics believe that the Open Kitchen help patrons work up an appetite. Smelling the food and watching the staff prepare it can stimulate the salivary glands and help patrons look forward to their meal.

The Open Kitchen is also a huge ego boost for the chef. A professional who spent years in training might feel that their skills are not fully appreciated if nobody is watching. Working in an Open Kitchen could make chefs happier.

The restaurant owner will definitely earn more thanks to an Open Kitchen. Creating an Open Kitchen means that the space of the restaurant is used in an optimal manner. The kitchen is smaller, which means less floor space is needed. This also means that less energy is used to cook or heat food. In the end, the Open Kitchen is a win-win situation for the restaurant and the patrons.

38. Are You Caught Up With The Open Kitchen Trend?

open kitchen design in action
open kitchen design in action

Restaurants with open kitchens- it’s about transparency, drama and having something to watch instead of staring at your Smartphone when your dinner date that you had been looking forward to for so long isn’t going so well.

The trend of open kitchens appears to have peaked approximately two years ago. However, it is still going strong. Diners love to watch their food being cooked right in front of them. They also like to check on what is going on between the kitchen staff. It’s kind of like amateur theatre at some restaurants. The chefs know they are on display and really play up to the audience. Steam engulfs everything and everyone in the area, there are foot high flames and lots of pots clanging and clattering. In the meantime, the audience can’t help sneaking peeks into the kitchen every once in a while.

Circular revolving conveyor belts epitomize the open kitchen in some of the Japanese restaurants. Sushi is prepared a few feet from the belt.

In some areas of the U.S. there are “super diner” clubs. These members consider themselves to be “food voyeurs.” On their websites they describe the antics of chefs and rate restaurants. The drama that takes place inside the open kitchen is just as important as the food quality and how it is presented. Sometimes it is even more important.

What encourages the idea of an Open Kitchen restaurant?

The rise of celebrity chef definitely has played a huge role in this trend. Jamie Oliver, Heston Blumenthal, Michel Roux Jr and Gordon Ramsay all dazzle us with their culinary skills and creative food preparation. In the case of Blumenthal, it is more like we are getting a science lesson. In the meantime, popular UK culinary audience participation programs like Masterchef let us believe, even if mistakenly, that we can become experts as well in the kitchen. For many of us looking for a new hobby to try, this can be very encouraging. It can also be a way to impress our other half.

We have, in fact, gotten very used to watching food being prepared from our television screens. Therefore, it is very natural for our favourite restaurants to become an extension of this form of entertainment.

What advantage does the restaurant get from having an Open Kitchen?

The concept of transparency is important here. When a restaurant is happy to show meals being prepared in front of diners, it shows they have nothing to hide. There aren’t any questionable tactics that will cause a local environmental health inspector to immediately run out to get a temporary closure order. We know exactly how the steak we order was handled and how the Cullen Skink was prepared.

Many restaurant critics think it isn’t only the smell and sight of food that makes us hungry. Watching our food being prepared can stimulate our salivary glands as well and make us work up our appetites.

It can also provide the chef with a big ego boost. Chefs who have undergone years of training in order to maximize his or her cooking skills will be appreciated for this when their art is on display. Does this translate into happier chefs for Open Kitchen restaurants? Perhaps.

“For restaurant owners, an Open Kitchen might put more money into his pocket. How does this happen?” questions commercial kitchen designer Rob Kutsch. When this kind of restaurant is designed, it makes maximum use of its space. Frequently, there doesn’t need to be as much floor space since the kitchen does tend to be smaller. This can lead to less overall energy being used for cooking and heating. It is a win/win solution for everyone involved.

36. Ronaldinho and His Evolution with Barcelona

Ronaldinho - Barca superstar
Ronaldinho – Barca superstar

Ronaldinho’s arrival at Barcelona had a noticeable impact on this team’s evolution, as we are going to see in a moment.

Back in the summer of 2003, shortly after Frank Rijkaard was appointed manager of the team, he brought Ronaldinho on board. The pressure was huge, all Barcelona fans being already fed up with the victories scored by Real Madrid and sad because Manchester United’s David Beckham refused to join the team.

Ronaldinho attracted the attention of football fans earlier, in 2002, with the occasion of the World Cup, when he contributed, together with Ronaldo and Rivaldo, to the victory of Brazil. He has a spectacular evolution in this tournament, showing the whole world that sometimes flair can beat experience and maturity. His quarter-final performance was absolutely memorable, the goal of victory bearing his signature. Unfortunately, he also managed to get a red card, thus being forced to stay out of the semi-final.

He was already recognized as a great talent when he joined Barcelona, yet he still needed to prove himself as an excellent player. Before Barca, Ronaldinho played for Paris Saint Germain, where he had a mixed evolutions full of brilliant performance, but also of off-field arguments. He was even accused by some of being rather inclined to partying rather than playing seriously.

Despite these rumors, Rijkaard spotted the potential of this young player and decided to put his faith in him and brought him on board. This decision payed off in the second half of that season, Barcelona managing to climb the success ladder up to an excellent second position, behind Valencia. It’s needless to say they were ahead of Real Madrid, to the great satisfaction of loyal fans and of Rijkaard himself. This was a reason for joy and celebration.

The season that followed was full of exciting evolutions, with Ronaldinho proving himself more and more as a genius player, with an unbelievable control of the ball and amazing skills that left his opponents floundering for so many times during important games. The Brazilian was on the lips of all fans, he was in the attention of all newspapers and magazines, he was the promoter of a new type of football, more modern, more exciting and more rewarding than ever.

In 2005, Barcelona won the Spanish Championship and Ronaldinho was appointed FIFA World Footballer of the Year. This was the first league title obtained by Barcelona in the 21st century. They proved once more that nothing is impossible if you are committed and willing to do the work.

“During the following season, Barcelona focused on defending their title, while thinking about winning the European League as well.”Ronaldinho maintained his stunning level of performance, crowned by the outstanding performance at Bernabeu, where Barca recorded an amazing 3-0 against Madrid. Ronaldinho got a standing ovation from his fans on the stadium that day. Everybody will remember those exciting moments for a very long time, that’s for sure. Ronaldinho was truly a playmaker, his influence in the games being obvious. Everybody played better with him on board, players were more united than ever and they performed as a solid team, fact that brought them so many victories and promoted them on the edge of glory and fame.

2006 was another great year for Barcelona. They won the league again and they even made it to the Champions League Final. This game between Barcelona and Arsenal ended with Barca’s victory. It was the second time in this team’s existence they won this title. It was clearly the influence of Ronaldinho, but despite of all these, Real Madrid managed to gain the title back during the next season. Ronaldinho quit Barcelona in the summer of 2008, after the departure of Rijkaard. He went to play for AC Milan, taking on a new challenge in his career.
